Silom road in Bangkok is probably one of the most well known roads in the whole of Thailand with arguably the most famous, Patpong, being a part of it.

Silom road is in the heart of the business center and so by day it is full of business people going about their daily business but come dusk, Silom transforms itself into one big market and food stall with connecting roads offering entertainment for all persuasions.

Silom road stretches from Rama 4 road all the way up to Charoenkrung road which is where you'll find the Shangri-La Hotel and The Oriental Hotel.
Scattered all the way up Silom road there are a number of large and well known hotels with a handful of smaller less expensive ones and so Silom road offers accommodation for all budgets.

Silom road has something to offer everyone whether you are after department stores, restaurants, trinkets, CDs / DVDs, fitness centres, furniture stores or pubs. It's all to be found somwhere along its length.
Silom road caters to Thais and non-Thais alike with plenty of noodle stalls, Thai food restaurants and many of the well known brand name fast food outlets such as KFC, Burger King, McDonalds, Pizza Hut, A&W and so on. A number of these can be found in the basement area of Central Silom Complex

If you start at Rama 4 road end of Silom Road and walk up on the left hand side, you will quickly come to the entrance of Soi Saladaeng ( More info on Soi Saladaeng here ) and then after that by another 50 yards is Central Silom Complex and the BTS, Skytrain station which connects to it.

Just after Central, on both sides, you'll find a bunch of noodle shops selling what is known as "ber_mee" which is egg noodles. You can have these noodles with various meats and vegetables; with or without soup. The shops don't look too enticing, but these shops have been here for years and are quite famous and well known, so stick your head around the door and ask for a bowl of "ber-mee moo daeng"
It's also about this far up Silom road that you'll find one of Bangkok's many Irish bars; O'reilly's

O'reilly's is a great place for having a few beers after work or in the evenings, serves good British pub food and often shows live sporting matches on it TVs and huge screen.
