Families and Children in Bangkok

Bangkok is not the best place for a holiday for Children. It can get very hot and sticky and the general hussle and bustle of daily life can make it a draining experience and so if you are coming as a family with young children then we suggest that you might want to get out of Bangkok and head to the usual holiday resorts around Thailand.

However, Bangkok does have a few places that kids will find of Interest.

Siam Paragon in Bangkok has a large Underwater World which is very interesting, fun and educational. It also has bowling alleys, Movie Theatres and a toy store.

There is Bangkok's Dream World which is a much smaller version of Disney World and there are various zoos that you can visit, but the zoos are not up to Western standards and the animals are kept in cramped and poor conditions. Safari World

Suan Siam or Siam Park is a good place to take your kids if they like swimming as there is an artifical wave making machine and it can be great fun if not a little busy. It is also important to take some sun cream because even though Bangkok can be cloudy, the sun will get through and can easily cause sun burn.

FOOD

Some people have also written to us asking about food issues and medicines for children and all we can say is that the main supermarkets and shopping malls all have the kind of things you will find at home as most items are imported nowadays. They will be more expensive but if your children need diapers, baby food, potato chips or if they have a craving for peanut butter and it's the only thing that will shut them up then do not fear as you'll get it all in Bangkok and most toursit areas of Thailand.

The country will be strange for them but food items and the comforts of home can all be bought here and there are plenty of McDonalds, Pizza Huts, Burger Kings, KFC etc to keep even them most hardened junk food junkie happy.

Medicine / Vaccinations

If you are concerned about the health risks associated with Bangkok and Thailand then we strongly advise that you seek medical advice from your medical practitioner before coming over here. Make sure you and your family are covered for Malaria, Cholera, Dengue Fever and other diseases associated with this part of the world.
We also strongly advise that you take out a good health and travel insurance plan to ensure that you are well looked after should anything untoward happen.
Bangkok has some excellent hospitals and its health care is on par with many western countries and so you will receive excellent medial care...AS LONG AS YOU CAN AFFORD IT.

We have heard from some visitors to this site that it is expensive to get vaccinations at home but the issue with waiting until you get to Bangkok could be that the vaccine hasn't had time to settle into your system, so rather than saving some money, get the vaccinations at home.

We'd like to suggest that you visit our chat forum because you might pick up a lot of hints and tips from people who've been here quite a while.
