To cut a potentially long story short, this is why many people come to Bangkok; the entertainment. Bangkok was once a true party city and it was possible to carry on having fun throughout the night and well into the next day, but Bangkok and Thailand as a whole is changing.
If you just mention the name Bangkok people automatically think of Patpong and sleazy Go Go bars, and although this is still a big part of Thailand, it has dramatically been reduced to a showdow of its former self.
The giflie bars are slowly disappearing and in their place are live music venues, Cafe Del Mar type bars and clubs, but the effort is mute because the Thai government, spearheaded by Taksin Shinawatra ( Thailand's richest man ), has clamped down hard on almost any form of entertainment.
Bangkok bars now close at 1.00am which really means the fun is winding down by 12.30. Some bars do stay open later, but they are few and far between and anything that's open past those times are fairly sleazy
