Convent road, or Soi Convent, as it is better known, Bangkok, connects Silom road and Sathorn road but it is also a great place for restaurants and a few bars. One down side of Soi Convent is that it is a mecca for food stalls which take up the side walks. In the evening, all the food stalls are open and always busy and so the air is full of the smells of soup, fried foods and other Thai foods, but during the day Soi Convent is a very dirty and very smelly road because all the food stalls have thrown all their waste down the sewers and there are always pools of rank smelling liquid lining the gutters. But this is generally restricted to Silom road end as this is where all the stalls are located.

These food stalls, when open, are directly outside the proper restaurants such as Zen, Bua and Coyote and so those inside sitting by the windows look out at the people eating on the streets, whilst those on the streets look in at those eating in the restaurants, but it's not annoying in anyway and can add to the enjoyment of eating there as it's a great place to sit and watch the world go by.

If sitting, drinking coffee, whilst watching the world go by is what you enjoy, then Soi Convent, Bangkok, is the palce to do it. On one side of the road you have La Boulangerie which is a French coffee shop seeling good coffee and excellent breads, cakes and patiseries. Here you can sit by the street or sit inside.
On the opposite side, you have a Starbucks, which has an open air section so that you can choose to watch the worl go by or sit indoors with a book or laptop.

The main bar on Soi Convent, Bangkok is The irish Exchange which is an expats hang out and serves good beers including draught Guiness. It is also a good place to have a hearty English meal of pies, chips or mash but there are other dishes to choose from. One other appeal is that is has a large screen which shows many International rugby and football features

There are a number of good restaurants on Soi Convent enabling you to choose between Indian, Italian, Japanese, Thai, Mexican or English food. There are a few others too but they are nearer the Sathorn end of the road and therefore, less popular.

Soi Convent, Bangkok is home to St. Joseph's Convent which is a fairly large and well respected girl's school as well as the exceptionally good BNH hospital.

In general, Soi convent, Bangkok, is a place for eating and having a few drinks. There are a few shops along its length but not really anything for expats or tourists. HAving said that though, you might wish to take a walk along its fairly short length to see what other restaurants are on offer, one of which is Eat Me, which has a reputation for serving excellent food in a very cosy atmosphere. To find it you'll need to enter Soi Convent from Silom end and walk roughly half way up and take the first side street on the right. Eat Me is about 20 yards on the left.
