There are a number of types of accommodation in Bangkok and Thailand and you can learn more about the different types by clicking on the links above to learn more about what is on offer and what you can expect to pay as well as the various areas of Bangkok.

Living in Bangkok can be very comfortable especially if you have the budget to afford an apartment over 30,000 Baht. Mind you, having said that, 30,000 Baht can afford you something quite large and comfortable if not centrally located, or, should you wish to be in the central Bangkok areas, it could afford you something small and without amenities.

As always, it's down to budget and location. The best place to start is by reading our FAQ section which tries to answer all the questions you might have.

What we have for 30K per month.

To give you a quick idea, I live on Sathorn road, central to Bangkok and the business area. I pay 30,000 Baht a month for an apartment that has 24 hour security, no swimming pool and no gym.

My apartment is about 100 Sq Meters in size and has just been rennovated and newly decorated.

I can easily walk to Silom road and Soi Convent and the nearest BTS station is about a 5 minute walk away. To get to the nearest Underground station, I'd need to take a taxi or motorbike to either Lumpini station or Saladaeng / Silom station.

I have two bedrooms. One large and one small with the main bathroom situated between the two.

The bathroom consists of a bath / shower and a toilet. It is a decent size and not badly decorated but it could be better. Personally, I prefer a dedicated shower.

There is a second toilet but no shower or bath. It is clean and newly decorated to an acceptable standard.

I have a small but acceptable kitchen with a brand new oven / cooker and fridge with plenty of cupboard space. I bought myself a washing machine but I believe this could have been supplied at an extra cost. The bonus is that the cooker is gas based which is rare. There is a gas cannister under the cupboard and if it runs out, the management will change it for me and charge me a uniflated rate for a new one.

The living area is a little small for me. I like a large living area and smaller bedrooms, but having said that, the living area is roughly 40 Sq M, I have no children and so the space is not too much of an issue.

Furniture was provided but, as with most places under 50,000 Baht, the furniture was basic and not very nice and so I went out and bought my own sofa, chairs and cupboards.

A decent sized TV was provided and the UBC / satellite package is included in the rental fee which is worth about 1,800 Baht a month.

Water and electricity is charged at government rates and so I pay fairly decent monthly utility rates. My usual monthly rate is 3,500 Baht and this includes phone, water and electricity. To clarify this, I work from 7 am until 6 pm Mon - Fri and sleep with the airconditioning on all night every night.

The negative aspect of this arrangement is that I have noisey Indian family living above me. They have a child who likes to jump around all the time and I hear their every, heavy footed move. I've complained to the owner who says he knows but there is little to do other than complain. The management is lazy in this respect.

So, that's what I get for the total monthly fee of 33,500 Baht a month. It's not a huge fee, but if I were to move slightly further out of the cntral area, I could get a similar place, with swimming pool and gym for 25,000 Baht a month ex bills. But, I couldn't walk to any shops, entertainment would involve a taxi ride and getting to work would be slightly more time consuming.
